Vasco Dantas

Biography

Vasco Dantas (born 1992 in Porto, Portugal) is an internationally acclaimed pianist, conductor, and artistic director. He earned his Bachelor of Music with First Class Distinction from the Royal College of Music in London, studying piano with Dmitri Alexeev and Niel Immelman, and conducting with Peter Stark and Natalia Luis-Bassa. He later completed a Master’s degree in Performance with the highest distinction and the prestigious “Konzertexamen” doctoral performance diploma at the University of Münster under the guidance of Heribert Koch.

Dantas is the artistic director of several international music initiatives, including the Piano Concerto Festival, Algarve Music Series, and Sezim Music Series. Over the course of his career, he has received more than fifty prizes and distinctions at international competitions, including First Prize at the Santa Cecilia International Piano Competition and the Grand Prix at the Valletta International Piano Competition in Malta, as well as awards from the Richard Wagner Foundation and the Portuguese national radio Antena 2.

He has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. In 2019 he made his New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall, and in 2022 he performed at the renowned Théâtre des Champs‑Élysées in Paris with the Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa. Other notable performances include appearances at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Hong Kong City Hall, and Casa da Música in Porto.

Beyond performance, Dantas is active as a pedagogue and frequently teaches masterclasses and serves on juries at international competitions. He holds a Master’s degree in Music Teaching from the University of Aveiro and the “Art of Teaching” diploma from the Royal College of Music. His recordings include the albums Promenade (2015), Golden Liszt (2016), and Poetic Scenes (2020), broadcast internationally by Antena 2 and German radio stations.
