Biography

Lorenzo Pone is an acclaimed Italian pianist, winner of the SJSS Award (London, 2019), Rome International Piano Competition (2011), Prémio RTP (2023), and London Gateway Competition (2018). He studied with Francesco Mariani and Paul Badura-Skoda, his mentor from 2011 to 2019. After graduating from the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, he was appointed Senior Lecturer and later received a Full Scholarship at the Royal College of Music, London. Badura-Skoda presented him as his “[...] artistic heir and spiritual son [...]” at the Prémio RTP in 2013 and at the Musikverein in Vienna. Since 2023, Pone is a member of the Bechstein Pianists family. Praised for his technical mastery and poetic expression, Le Monde called him “one of the most acclaimed soloists of the new generation of Italian musicians,” and The New York Times highlighted his convincing Mozart interpretations.
He has performed at major venues, including Wigmore Hall (London), Teatro San Carlo (Naples), Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Moscow Conservatory, Musikverein (Vienna), Sydney Opera House, Shanghai Opera House, Salle Pleyel (Paris), Carnegie Hall (New York), New England Conservatory (Boston), Palau de la Musica Catalana (Barcelona), and Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon). In 2015, he toured South America and the United States.
Pone records for RAI, RTP, ORF, and BBC, and teaches piano technique at the Royal Academy of Music, London. His second album, Tribute to Paul Badura-Skoda, will be released in January 2025 by Gramola and presented in recitals across Europe, London, New York, and Tokyo.
