Biography

Born in Ukraine and educated in St. Petersburg and Moscow, Eduard Schmieder immigrated to the USA in 1979. Hailed as an “extraordinary musician of the late 20th century” (Henry Roth), he maintains an active international career as a violinist, conductor, and educator. He has performed in major venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall (New York), Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Cite de la Musique (Paris), Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles), Santory and Nikkei Halls (Tokyo), and Mozarteum Salzburg, collaborating with artists such as Yehudi Menuhin, Martha Argerich, Ida Haendel, Lynn Harrell, and Jon Kimura Parker.

In 1996, Schmieder performed on Paganini’s legendary Guarneri del Gesu “Il Cannone” violin in Genoa, a distinction reserved for exceptional virtuosi. He has taught at leading institutions including Temple University (L. H. Carnell Professor and Artistic Director for Strings), University of Southern California (tenured violin professor, succeeding Jascha Heifetz), and Meadows School of the Arts, Dallas. His students are prizewinners at top international competitions and occupy key positions in orchestras globally.

Schmieder has received numerous honors, including the Great Teacher Award (2020), American Cultural Specialist Award with Wynton Marsalis (1999), honorary citizenships of the Netherlands and Kazakhstan, and an Honorary Doctorate from Kazakh National University of Arts (2016). He has served on juries of major international competitions such as Queen Elisabeth, Premio Paganini, Tchaikovsky, and ARD, and taught masterclasses at the world’s leading conservatories, including the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg.

In 1997, he founded iPalpiti Artists International with Lord Yehudi Menuhin, supporting over 400 musicians from 59 countries and promoting peace through music. Schmieder also advises numerous artistic projects, including the Foundation “Remember Enescu” in Romania.
