Biography
Lien Boon Hua is a Singaporean conductor celebrated for his artistic versatility and emotional depth across an expansive range of repertoire. Acclaimed as one of Asia’s foremost interpreters of contemporary music, he is equally recognized for his distinctive voice in symphonic repertoire, opera, and Asian musical traditions. He is the founding Artistic Director of Wayfarer Sinfonietta, and in 2024 was appointed Conductor of the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra.
His international career includes engagements with renowned orchestras such as the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, and regularly conducts opera productions across the region. He has appeared at many prestigious festivals and studied with distinguished maestros like Bernard Haitink and Peter Eötvös. An award-winning conductor, he teaches at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music, holding a doctorate in orchestral conducting from the Eastman School of Music.
Lien’s talent has earned him invitations to prestigious international festivals and recognition from esteemed figures, including the late Bernard Haitink and Peter Eötvös, as well as Paavo Järvi, Cristian Măcelaru, and Tsung Yeh. His has participated in masterclasses with eminent orchestras such as the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, Lucerne Festival Strings, and Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. Additionally, he was selected as an inaugural Mahler Conducting Fellow for the Colorado MahlerFest XXIX.
